Go South Summer
Go South Summer 2020 will place its fellows in established community organizations and nonprofits in Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, West Virginia. Fellows will have an opportunity to contribute to these organizations and the community in immediately impactful ways by working in projects that might include writing grants, collecting data, creating new programs, identifying need, and streamlining administration. On top of doing meaningful work as part of a community effort, fellows will also explore Savannah, Charleston, and the South more broadly through cultural immersion programing.
In future years, Go South Summer hopes to include more cities and expand to rural areas, as well as incorporate students from other universities in Savannah, Charleston, and the Northeast.
Timeline: 8 weeks, from June 8 to July 31, 2019.
Hours: 30-40 hrs/week
Finances: Go South is working hard to make our program financially accessible to all. This summer, Yale students eligible for the Domestic Summer Award are encouraged to apply for funds. Fellows will have the opportunity to stay in a local homestay free of charge.
Eligibility: Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors from Go South's partner institutions. All disciplines and levels of experience are welcome! While students with a well-articulated interest in the South will be especially strong candidates, you need not be from the South to be a fellow.
